Everyday Care

To keep your board looking and performing its best:

• Wash by hand using warm water and mild dish soap.

• Dry immediately with a clean towel.

• Store upright whenever possible to promote even air circulation.

Never

• Place your board in the dishwasher.

• Leave your board soaking in water.

• Allow standing water to remain on the surface.

• Place your board in the microwave or oven.

• Expose your board to prolonged moisture or extreme temperatures.

Because solid hardwood naturally responds to changes in moisture, proper care helps preserve its strength, stability and beauty.

Monthly Maintenance

To nourish and protect your board, apply Dave’s Creations Beeswax Board Polish or food-grade mineral oil approximately once each month, or whenever the wood begins to appear dry.

Application:

• Ensure the board is clean and completely dry.

• Apply a generous coat using a soft, lint-free cloth.

• Allow the finish to absorb for several hours or overnight.

• Wipe away any excess before use.

Routine conditioning helps protect against moisture, reduce the likelihood of cracking and warping, restore the wood’s natural lustre and extend the life of your board.

Removing Food Odours

• Sprinkle coarse salt over the surface.

• Rub gently with half a fresh lemon.

• Let stand for 5–10 minutes.

• Rinse thoroughly and dry immediately.

• Reapply mineral oil or board polish if necessary.

Removing Stains

• Mix baking soda with a small amount of water to create a paste.

• Gently rub the affected area using a soft cloth.

• Rinse thoroughly.

• Dry immediately.

• Recondition with mineral oil or board polish.

Normal Signs of Use

Knife marks, subtle colour changes and the rich patina that develops over time are natural characteristics of a well-used hardwood cutting board. These signs of use reflect the authenticity of solid wood and the memories created around it.

As with all solid hardwood products, seasonal expansion and contraction are natural characteristics of the material.

Routine Care

• Dust regularly using a soft microfiber cloth.

• Clean with a lightly damp cloth and immediately dry the surface.

• Avoid abrasive cleaners, bleach and ammonia-based products.

Protecting Your Furniture

• Use coasters beneath beverages.

• Use placemats during meals.

• Always use trivets beneath hot cookware.

• Lift decorative objects rather than sliding them across the surface.

• Use felt pads beneath decorative accessories.

Indoor Environment

Maintain indoor humidity between approximately 35% and 55% whenever possible.

Avoid prolonged exposure to:

• Direct sunlight

• Heating vents

• Fireplaces

• Air conditioning units

• Excessive moisture

Outdoor Furniture

Outdoor furniture should be cleaned periodically and refinished using Dave’s Creations Outdoor Beeswax Finish approximately every 6–12 months, depending on weather exposure.

Whenever possible:

• Remove standing water.

• Cover furniture during extended periods of rain.

• Protect or store furniture during harsh Canadian winters.
